On a sunny day, the wind is so strong, you can’t keep your eyes open. If you ever had a choice, I mean, if you ever felt you had to choose, what would you be watching? Who would you be watching it with? Maybe with your sleepy little sister in the school playground. Who knows?
My companions and I were attending a school math class when this event occurred. A peaceful math class where all we were supposed to do was rack our brains. Suddenly, a loud ‘KABOOM’ interrupted the endearing atmosphere. Everyone scurried to the window and created a loud ruckus while I dwelled in my seat, traumatized. I couldn’t move, were they back again?
My friends were getting the chills with the sound and my anonymous reaction. They rushed to me and asked if I was OK, but I was still zoned out. Once they caught themselves on my camera, I just reassured them I was OK.
My brain started to exaggerate these sounds as they recited themselves in my head. Finally, I lost it. I sprang off my seat and dashed to the door, two of my very close friends ran after me as I lost my temper. Down, in the school playground, 2 dragons, one red and the other black, were fighting. I stood there, unable to move. I tried my best to run but I couldn’t. Unfortunately, the latter dragon spotted me and swooped down and pushed me into a dark magical portal along with itself. Little did I know, the dragon had not only taken me but also the two friends of mine who had tagged along.
Through the portal we went, my mind was racing, it was them again like time just repeated itself. The same dragons, the same date. There must be some association.
It was a Tuesday, a sunny one indeed. The previous year, I heard the same sound and commotion. On the news, the same two dragons were fighting.
The dark magical portal swirling around me gave me big lumps in my throat. I looked around to see my two friends. I was over the moon to know I was not alone on this voyage, but I didn’t even know they had tagged along until that instant and we were in great jeopardy.
The portal finally dropped us down on a layer with the dragon. I had never seen the dragon up close. It had scales and wings of coal black, as well as a dark grey tint for the tail. The dragon’s eyes looked frightened, but it looked at us as if it was optimistic to expect something, something it did not wish to speak about.
My heart was pounding out of my chest as I stood there, transfixed. It was the dragon who broke the silence. He asked us what would be our response if we were asked to help him. Me, Rei and Marcos, my 2 friends, thought about it and Rei said that it relied on what it was. So, the dragon started to talk.
“you see, every year Fireus is let out into the world to do whatever he wants for a week. We Dragons know that within a week of his arrival, the whole world will be torn down to ruins. The only way to put him back to his rightful place, to the underworld, is to guess the question or the Riddle in this book. It is called the book of the Draxi . The password is related to the place fireus had chosen to cause damage to, this time , your school. I want your help to figure it out.”
We all listened patiently and seemingly, Fireus was the other red dragon we had seen at the start. We agreed to help him on one condition, to get us back when it’s done. He nodded and said that when fireus was put back in the underworld, time will reset itself back to when he wasn’t here, and everyone will forget what happened except us. Once we were sure of that, the dragon gave us the book of Draxi.
A rough book which gave me the chills. It was jet black and when you ran your finger across the grainy surface, there was a clear distinction between the dust and the book itself.
Marcos opened the book with trembling hands. A bright light shot out of the book. What was going on? This was crazy! Every book I’ve read has not gone blinding lights mode, now that is for sure. A few letters started to assemble as a projection from the book. I was the first to be able to read the message.
“I know you but you don’t know me,
I am always behind you no matter what you see.
I am not a chair or a wall,
I am what you call”
I read aloud, we had to find that last word to complete the Riddle.
We thought about it until we thought our heads would explode. Rei Said it might be something that motivates you to do things. I gave a clear thought to that and came up with the answer, our inner voice. We wrote the answer in the book and the book teleported us back to where we started, where fireus and the black dragon were fighting.
There we saw Fireus, who was staring at us with wide eyes. As he saw the book, he started to charge at us, building steam and flames as each second passed. We barely had any time to run when something miraculous happened. the Dragon stop in his tracks and cried with pure agony. Bits of his body started to levitate and disappear into the sky.
The dragon thank dust for all we had done to help him and in return, he gave us a feather we could use to visit the dragon world anytime. finally, to fix things up, the dragon reset time back to where things started as our mind was left to wonder over the recent collection of events that showed us a new part of the world.
