Welcome Back!
I was going through my archives and found these remains of a debate speech. The topic is peculiar to say the least, a short article for the same. ” corruption and the encouragement of transparency is an urgent world crisis that needs our attention”, important and catchy. Let’s have a look at that, shall we?
{…}
Countries around the world that have just managed to put an end to their conflicts usually have a lot of weapons lying around.
What do they do with it? Or at least what are they supposed to do with it?
They melt the weapons and use them for something that will benefit the country in its current state. I am not denying that happens but another thing that is not meant to happen happens anyway. To get some extra cash, countries sell these weapons to illegal groups without the knowledge of other parties.
This is quite sad. Though let’s put this into perspective. I won’t be asking why since it’s already been answered. Monetary gain. However, other questions such as why does this happen or who does it?
It happens due to the corruption that takes place in the area. How? People are influenced to take up such actions usually through the thought of money. And yes, that is usually how people are influenced into these illegal ways to get a little extra cash. People who are involved in this are usually people of power, a position of trust. That is what makes bribing a crime to begin with.
It’s important for governments to keep transparency on what they do for the same reason. If we are going to move forward to a world where we won’t have to worry about these things, I believe this is essential. Let’s put this into perspective. To quote the same example, the illegal sale of small arms to get some extra cash. If transparency was practised, this issue could have been improved since other governments or the UN body itself would have been able to track these orders more freely and be able to point out the source of the weapons easily. Thus many problems can be solved.
If we look at it another way, it also will help people get accurate data since the more transparency there is, the it is easier to document information on the same. Trust in governments will also increase and underpopulation and overpopulation may be solved. How? Well, if transparency becomes a norm in every country, countries will work towards having a clean slate and not one which is tainted with other unpleasant factors and once that is done, people will not need to move out or move into new places and population rates could normalise around the world.
Rounding it all up, it is a very important issue. One that we must focus on. We must work towards a world where corruption is at an all-time low and where transparency among governments is the norm. After all, I have mentioned on this, you will have to agree that corruption and the encouragement of transparency is an urgent world crisis that needs our attention.
