Topic 1: A major challenge you have overcome in life.
Topic 2: A hobby that you are passionate about.
These are two compelling topics, brimming with potential and countless subtopics. Sometimes that’s part of the challenge, isn’t it? When so many options are available, it can be tough to settle on one. If you catch my drift. I spent quite a bit of time exploring the first topic, generating numerous ideas which I ultimately decided to discard. I’ll be honest: while this isn’t the exact wording of the topics, it captures the essence.
Eventually, I settled on the topic of Social Anxiety. It’s a challenge I faced and proudly overcame—something I felt confident discussing. It’s a great topic with ample material to draw upon, especially when I include my personal experiences. Definitely a fitting first topic.
But wait—what are these speeches for? They’re for the Trinity communication exam. For those familiar with it, this name holds significance among public speakers and debaters alike. I’ve been participating in these exams for a while now, and this happens to be my second one.
As for the second topic, my choice was clear from the start: Horse Riding. It’s one of my many hobbies, and it’s one I’m truly passionate about, making it an ideal subject to address.
Now that I’ve selected my topics, what comes next? Naturally, it’s time for the actual speech-making. I had a couple of wonderful mentors who assisted me through this process, and after crafting a couple of drafts, I was all set.
Finally, the day of the exam arrived. Picture the scene: the usual room with a laptop at the center, linked via Zoom to the UK. What an impact Covid has had, right? Aside from that, I knew I just had to give it my all.
When my results came back, it had been a while, but I was overjoyed to discover that I was one of the UAE toppers for my grade in Trinity. So many people deserved my gratitude for this journey, and it truly was an enriching experience.
Reflecting on it all, I believe I’ve come a long way from where I started, and I genuinely hope this progress continues for a long time to come.
